When Fierce & Wild Is Your Baseline

September 18, 2026•4 min read

Do you remember a time when being “wild” was a bad thing? When being “fierce” meant being too aggressive?

Do you remember the moment when it became clear to your young, wild, fierce self that you might be doing something wrong?

I do. I was 13. It was made clear to me in a moment surrounded by family & joy that my “me-ness” was a bit too much-ness. And in the years of my healing & deconstructing & unlearning, I’ve talked to so many other women who had similar experiences, who remember the moment when it was made clear to them that who they were didn’t fit the way it was “supposed to”.

And I can now say, confidently at the big age of 44, that reclaiming my fierce & wild is the best thing I’ve ever done. Are you ready to do it too?

What Is A Fierce & Wild Woman?

The best part in all of this is that what a fierce & wild woman is, is completely up to that woman.

Giving definitive definitions to assigned labels that look different depending on whose wearing them is honestly part of a bigger problem, so I’ll ask you, when you think of a fierce & wild woman, what do you think of?

Is she so free with her mind & soul that she almost glows?

Is she so focused on her highest & best that the chaos around her fades away?

Is she the kind of champion for others that makes you want to take up the cause too?

Is she so sure of herself that her words, actions, & energy inspire you?

Is she living life on her terms in a way that makes you ask, ‘Can I do that too?”

Is she loving so fiercely that she goes from gentle mother to deadly warrior in moments?

In Women Who Run With The Wolves, Clarissa Pinkola Estes brilliantly breaks down the archetype of the wild woman across centuries & cultures. What I get each time I go back to this book - which is weekly these days - is that the wild woman is every woman, each at their own stage of life, cycle of evolution, & level of healing.

The fierce, wild woman lives in each of us; no matter how deeply buried she might be right now.

When Fierce & Wild Is Your Baseline

In the October mailing of The Goddess Post our guiding goddess is Artemis. She’s what has gotten this topic buried so deep in my brain these days; her & I have been spending a lot of time together.

Artemis is the Goddess of The Hunt, The Moon, & The Wild and, in my opinion, she’s the ultimate reclamation goddess. She teaches us to move with focus, clarity, & complete trust in our knowing & intuition. She is the fierce huntress & protector of the vulnerable and she’s our call back to reconnection with our primal instinct.

For Artemis, fierce & wild in life was her baseline & I think we all need to follow suit.

What is your fierce & wild baseline?

And the thing I want you to pay attention to is baseline.

Not the you that shows up loud & wild once in a while - at a party, after a glass of wine, when you’re in the “right” situation, with the “right” people.

Your fierce & wild baseline is how you move through a middle-of-the-week day when life isn’t asking too much of you. It’s how you decide to show up even when it’s going to be messy & uncomfortable & not ideal, how you’re going to move through your next iteration feeling the most ‘you’ you’ve ever felt.

There’s a good chance that it's not one big audacious thing. Maybe your fierce & wild baseline is simpler than you think - the way you start saying ‘no’ and creating a boundary, the way you take up space at the table without apologizing for your order, the way you stop adjusting, shrinking, turning it down to make other people comfortable.

You might find your way to your fierce & wild baseline in a book, scrolling TikTok, getting The Goddess Post, or having a moment of clear knowing on a random Friday morning in the most unsuspecting way.

But remember one important thing - it's already in you. Artemis reminds us of that in her message & wisdom, so be patient with yourself & know that you’re on your way.
